About the author

Born in New Zealand, Heather Morris’s life changed in 2003 when she met Lale Sokolov, an elderly man with ‘a story to tell’. It formed the basis of her first novel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz and its follow-up, Cilka’s Journey. Her third novel, Three Sisters, concluded the Tattooist trilogy. One of the 21st century’s bestselling books, The Tattooist of Auschwitz was made into an acclaimed miniseries in 2024.

Heather’s most recent novel, Sisters Under the Rising Sun, is based on the experiences of women held in Japanese POW camps during World War II.  The Wish, her first contemporary novel, due this autumn, is inspired by her years spent working alongside families in a busy public hospital.

Heather’s books have sold over 19 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 50 languages.

Praise for The Tattooist of Auschwitz:

‘A remarkable story of survival and how love triumphed in that lawless hell. A phenomenon’
The Times

‘Heather Morris tells Lale’s story with dignity and restraint, never letting her own voice intrude, nor letting the love story overwhelm the greater context of displacement, trauma and survival’
Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie Project

I’ve always been drawn to the extraordinary behind the apparently ordinary lives people live.  It’s a privilege to be able to honour the bravery and resilience of past generations by telling their stories to a whole new audience
