The Piano Teacher of Montparnasse is out now

Posted : Thursday 22nd October 2026

The new book from Heather Morris, the internationally bestselling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, is out now. Inspired by real events, The Piano Teacher of Montparnasse takes place in occupied Paris during the Second World War. When the Nazis come to arrest her Jewish family, an eleven-year-old girl manages to flee to the only person she can trust: her piano teacher, Andrée Levallois. Andrée takes her in without question and risks everything in her determination to protect the young girl.

Heather Morris first heard of this true story from the world-renowned composer Hans Zimmer, who wrote the score for the television adaptation of The Tattooist of Auschwitz alongside Kara Talve. At Hans’s encouragement, Heather asked Kara about her grandmother’s piano, and what followed was an astonishing account of her grandmother’s survival of the war, made possible only by the extraordinary determination and courage of her piano teacher.

Now Heather and Kara bring this beautiful novel, the story of Kara’s grandmother, Josie, and Andrée Levallois, The Piano Teacher of Montparnasse, to readers.

Production commences on television adaptation of Tim Ayliffe’s John Bailey crime novels, as the books publish with Firefinch next year

The television adaptation of Tim Ayliffe’s action-packed John Bailey crime novels is officially underway with the Australian production company CJZ. The six-episode series will air in 2027 and is based on The Enemy Within, the third John Bailey book, adapted for the screen by Blake Ayshford, with Ayliffe as Consulting Producer.

The show will star David Lyons as John Bailey, the former war correspondent who risks his life in pursuit of truth, uncovering corruption, conspiracies and political extremism. Lyons will be joined by David Harewood as Ronnie Johnson, the CIA operative to whom Bailey owes his life, as well as Yael Stone and Anthony LaPaglia. This cast promises to deliver the intensity and emotional weight that this gripping, adrenaline-fuelled story demands.

The books will also be released next year by Firefinch Publishing, which acquired World English rights following the novels’ success in Australia and New Zealand. The first instalment, The Greater Good, will be published in May 2027, followed shortly by State of Fear, The Enemy Within, Killer Traitor Spy and The Wrong Man.
