Kate Parkin has acquired World English language rights in One Morning at Nuremberg by celebrated French war correspondent, writer and film-maker Alfred de Montesquiou, from Benita Edzard at Robert Laffont. The book, acclaimed by French reviewers, was shortlisted for France’s prestigious Prix Goncourt, Grand Prix du Roman de l’Académie Française and won the Prix Renaudot. Firefinch will publish in spring 2027.

Based on true events, One Morning at Nuremberg is a gripping novel of love, rivalry and the human cost of war, set against the febrile atmosphere of the epic Nuremberg Trials.  Told through the eyes of American military photographer Ray D’Addario, who finds himself drawn into the human drama behind his lens, and Czech-German translator Margarete Borufka, who has her own secrets to keep as she confronts the reality of Nazi atrocities, and with cameo appearances from international figures such as Martha Gelhorn, Marlene Dietrich, Joseph Kessler and John Dos Passos, this is both a poignant love story and a grand historical narrative.

Kate Parkin said: ‘Widely acclaimed in France, based on meticulous research and told with the blessing of Ray and Margarete’s daughter, Linda, this remarkable novel and moving love story takes us into the very heart of history. We are proud to be bringing it to an English-speaking audience.’

Alfred de Montesquiou said: ‘Nuremberg was an extraordinary moment, when the ideal of justice triumphed over violence, and the principles of international law prevailed over war. I am delighted that my novel will now be published for the English-speaking world – at a time when Nuremberg’s principles are all too often being forgotten by the very nations that first brought them to life.’

Linda D’Addario Salmon, daughter of Ray D’addario and Margarete Borufka said, ‘My father Ray’s photographic documentation of the Nuremberg Trials and my mother Margarete Borufka’s contributions were something of which they were very proud. I think they would be pleased that their personal story has been interwoven into this wonderful novel, giving the reader a better sense of what it was like for those involved in the trial on a daily basis.’
